A unique blend of Creole music and dance featuring the sounds of New Orleans carnival: Voyage Kreyol (Creole) with Michelle Jacques and CHELLE! and Friends, and Puerto Rico's rich history with Hector Lugo and La Mixta Criolla.
Michelle Jacques, a New Orleans native has been awarded the 2008 City of Oakland, Individual Artist grant to continue her research of her Creole culture, the language and the history. Creole music and culture represent one of the United States most richly layered and exciting living traditions with its unique blend of Native American, Black African, French, Spanish, and Caribbean cultural influences. CHELLE! and Friends along with La Mixta Criolla will bring it on, with this exciting evening of music and dance.
