"Vivir" (To Live, 55 min.) is a film about a team of young adults in the inner city neighborhood of Richmond/San Pablo who are brought together by their love of music. The film advocates for cultural arts education as a means of community transformation & self-realization.
Through the first voice accounts of artists and the children and teens they teach, we learn about the challenges faced by Mexican immigrant families and the role that music plays in their reconciliation of the distinct worlds within which they are growing up.
"Vivir" reflects on contemporary American issues such as immigration, societal neglect, and low educational expectations, and simultaneously illustrates the resourcefulness and optimism of the emerging 'immigrant boom' generation.
"Vivir" is the 3rd film in the trilogy Cultures of Mexico in California produced by Eugene Rodriguez, Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center, and directed by Mexican filmmaker Ricardo Braojas.
