$10 gen. - 7:30pm

Honoring Studs Terkel's birthday. The Center for Digital Storytelling, Streetside Stories, 826Valencia, Youth Speaks, Berkeley Community Media & KPFA celebrates the International Day for Sharing Life Stories With the Theresa Perez Band, by screening digital stories from around the world, and spoken word and readings by youth from around the Bay.

The Museum of the Person International Network (Brazil, Portugal, USA and Canada) and the Center for Digital Storytelling (USA, Canada, Denmark, Czech Republic, Ireland and Portugal) are organizing the Second International Day for Sharing Life Stories. The date was chosen to honor the birthday of Studs Terkel, the renowned author, radio host, and proponent of the stories of ordinary people. Studs passed away at age 96 in October of last year. After a successful inaugural year, the theme of the 2009 Campaign, Journeys Toward Justice, will seek to promote partnerships and collaborations between activists engaged in the issues of Human Rights and Immigrant Rights with life story organizations. The goal of the campaign is to gain broad recognition of May 16 as an annual day for sharing, listening to, and gathering the stories of peoples' lives.
