May 20, 2006 will see national demonstrations in Washington, DC and Los Angeles, California to protest the hostile campaigns, deceitful propaganda and disinformation, threats, and sanctions carried out by the Bush Administration, with bipartisan support in the US Congress against the governments and peoples of Venezuela and Cuba. There will local support actions in Seattle, Washington and Denver, Colorado. There will also be solidarity marches with the May 20 actions in the United States in a number of countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Austria, Australian, and Canada (others) The protests will demand an end to the decades-long US economic and political war against Cuba, the normalization of US-Cuban relations, and demand the right of US citizens and legal residents to travel to Cuba free of government restrictions and harassment; an end to US hostile campaigns and threats against Venezuela and its sovereign government, and to stop US military intervention in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The demonstration in Washington, DC will march to Lafayette Park across from the White House where a rally will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Speakers will include Reverend Lucius Walker; Reverend Luis Barrios;
The May 20 protests were called by an ad hoc national coalition, the May 20 Hands Off Venezuela and Cuba Coalition which includes the All-African People‚s Revolutionary Party; Alliance for Global Justice; A.N.S.W.E.R.; Black Radical Congress; Bolivarian Circles organizations in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Minneapolis, New York City, and Seattle; Dominican Friends of Cuba; Global Exchange; Haiti Support Network; IFCO-Pastors for Peace; 1199 SEIU Health and Human Services Union East; International Action Center; Korean-Americans for Peace; National Committee to Free the Cuban Five; National Lawyers Guild; National Network on Cuba; North American Congress on Latin America; People‚s Hurricane Relief Fund and Oversight Coalition; SOA Watch; US/Cuba Labor Exchange; Venceremos Brigade; Venezuela Solidarity Network; and Women‚s International League for Peace and Freedom. Prominent individuals endorsing the May 20 demonstrations include Noam Chomsky; Ramsey Clark; Peter Coyote; Danny Glover; Judge Claudia Morcom (retired); and Cindy Sheehan.
