La Chamba & La Misa Negra

April 6, 2013 @ 8:00 pm

|

They decided to call themselves “La Chamba.” It means to put in work…

La Chamba began with a love and respect for Peruvian Chicha music. Its deep Amazonian Cumbia groove along with the psychedelic feel instantly inspired them to create their own unique blend of the sound. They were moved not only by its personal and social message, but by the parallels that exist in the pulse of barrios across Latino America.

Coming from humble working-class Los Angeles communities, La Chamba decided to amplify the realities that made them who they are by adding a rhythm to the daily bustle of life.

Their audience is as much a part of their performance as they are. Encouraging and electrifying the people to let loose, and release their grind on the dance floor…

Oakland’s own, La Misa negra is an 8-piece that plays a very unique blend of Cumbia and high-energy, Afro-Latin dance music. Packed with horn and accordion powered riffs, a raucous rhythm section and a vintage Colombian sound, La Misa Negra delivers a killer live show that explodes with infectious dance grooves and punk rock energy. After only a matter of months, La Misa Negra is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the Bay Area’s most exciting live bands and, in the process, building a diverse fan base that transcends ethnic, cultural and generational divides. Having already shared the stage with an eclectic mix of internationally renown artists such as Celso Piña, Nortec Collective, Chico Trujillo, La Santa Cecilia, Bobbito Garcia and La Sonora Dinamita, La Misa Negra continues to maintain a busy tour schedule. The band is currently working on their debut album, which is slated for a Fall 2012 release.
