Ernesto Olmos, multifaceted sculptor and painter of pre-Columbian Meso-American cultural forms and beloved community member, has lost his home and studio in Sonoma due to the recent fires. With your support Ernesto can continue realizing his work.
We are hosting this fundraiser to help Ernesto fund his upcoming expedition to Oaxaca to participate in an international jaguar conservatory project and to offset his costs of being displaced due to the fires. He is scheduled to travel to his hometown of Oaxaca, Mexico to take part in the first International Jaguar of the Light project in November, to bring consciousness about the preservation of sacred Jaguars through the sharing of Mixe and Zapotec oral traditions. By using art, music, and dance this project reconnects children and teachers to their cultural heritage.

As a continuing part of this project Ernesto will be offering free art classes to children from the Sierra Mixe and Sierra Juarez villages in Oaxaca till January 2018. These classes teach the importance of ecological conservation and the preservation of Jaguars. In these classes he shares the cosmovision and oral stories given to us by our Ancestors to teach how to respect Mother Earth and the Sacred Jaguar.

During this trip he will also meet Chief Tashka Peshaho from the Yawanawa nation and Spiritual Leader Tii Antonio Chiriap Shamich from the Shuar Nation to visit sacred sites in Oaxaca and offer ceremonies for the Jaguar.

Your financial support will fund Ernesto’s project costs including: paying for materials to use in the children’s classes, including a digital projector, art supplies, musical instruments, educational handouts, travel, ground transportation, food and lodging. It will also pay for equipment to document the trip including external memory drive and SD cards.

Ernesto was able to rescue his original artwork and prints, which will be for sale at La Peña Friday, November 10 to help him rebuild a studio as well as help him travel to Oaxaca for the Jaguar preservation project.

You can support Ernesto by purchasing his original art or prints, or by DONATING ANY AMOUNT at the door!
