Kids’ Rock Band with Daniel Sheridan

About the class:
Come try out this super fun class for FREE on March 2! This is a once-a-week 2-hour class designed for kids with any amount of prior musical training interested in learning how to play rock music together in a band. The class lasts 6 weeks and ends with a performance on the final class day during the last half hour of class. This class motivates students to practice more , learn covers of contemporary artists’ music that they get to choose themselves, and learn how to cooperate and work together better as a team. Students can learn cover songs in English and Spanish and have the opportunity to create original songs. New bands organized outside of class, or existing bands are highly encouraged.
Requirements:
-Students should have at least some experience with their instruments, meaning that they have had some instruction in the past or are currently taking lessons, even if they’ve just started recently. Meaning, this isn’t the first time they’ve picked up their instruments.
-Students will need to bring their own instruments and amplifiers.
-String instruments are preferred to be electric, but can be mic’d if if acoustic.
-A drum set will be provided and drummers are encouraged to bring any preferred accessories.
-A PA system and microphones will be provided.
-Class sizes are generally a maximum of 6 children, but exceptions can be made

Class structure:
First 60 minutes – Students practice learning individual parts, memorization of lyrics, learning structure of songs on white board and playing along to the recording of the cover songs.
10-15 minute break
last 45 minutes – Student play the songs together listening to each other and following the structure of the songs illustrated on the dry/erase board.
Performance:
At the end of each 8 week session there will be a rock concert for parents and friends in the classroom complete with spectacular huge budget lighting (Christmas lights, strobe lights and lamps) and stunning pyrotechnics (glow stick necklaces)!!! The concert will be in the rehearsal room during the last half our of class time.
Parent participation:
I highly encourage parents to be present in the class if they ever want to sit in at any time in the session!
About Daniel Sheridan:
Daniel Sheridan is 37 and has been studying, writing and performing music since the age of 15. He earned a B.A. in Music from San Francisco State University where he studied classical music mainly and some jazz and world music. He has been living and working in South Berkeley for the last 10 years teaching private lessons and coaching youth rock bands. When he is not busy playing lead guitar with thrash metal legends Potential Threat SF, he enjoys performing classical music for weddings and events, playing shows with local rock, gypsy swing and Latin American ensembles, writing original music and scoring for films. He loves and appreciates music of all genres, languages and cultures.
