LA RUMBA ME LLAMA: Clases de Rumba Cubana


Interested in RUMBA and the Afro-Cuban Tradition?
We have these 2 music classes back-to-back at La Peña that explore the musicality of Cuban Rumba and more!

¿Interesado en la RUMBA y la tradición afrocubana? ¡Tenemos estas 2 clases de música consecutivas en La Peña que exploran la musicalidad de la rumba cubana y mucho más!

Note: classes are taught in Spanish, but English speakers are welcome to join if you’re comfortable with limited translation.

CLASE 1:

LA RUMBA ME LLAMA: Música Rumba Cubana

  • Lunes (Mondays), 7:00pm – 8:15pm
  • Todos los niveles / all levels
  • $35 – una clase / drop-in
  • $180 – paquete de 6 clases / 6-class package

En esta clase se aprenderán los ritmos fundamentales y nombres de cada instrumento, incluyendo la técnica básica de las congas, cajón, chekere clave y guaguancó, y una breve historia sobre el género.

In this class, students will learn the fundamental rhythms and the names of each instrument, including the basic technique for congas, cajón, chekere, clave, and guaguancó, as well as a brief history of the genre.

 

CLASE 2:


YORUBA SOY: Percusión Afro-Cubana (Tambor Batá)

  • Lunes (Mondays) 8:30pm – 9:30pm
  • Todos los niveles / all levels
  • $40 – una clase / drop-in
  • $225 – paquete de 6 clases / 6-class package

En esta clase se aprenderán la técnica para ejecutar el Bata y algunos de sus ritmos genéricos. Llamamos genérico, al ritmo que se le toca a más de un Orisha. Einar lleva tiempo dedicado a las canciones y también presentará una breve historia sobre el género.

In this class, students will learn the technique for playing the Batá and some of its generic rhythms. We call a rhythm “generic” when it is played for more than one Orisha. Einar will dedicate some time to the songs and will also present a brief history of the genre.

Sobre / About Einar Leliebre:

Einar Leliebre Nuñez es Director Musical, Cantante, Percusionista y Maestro de Santiago de Cuba. Fue Director Musical y músico principal de la prestigiosa compañía Teatro de la Danza del Caribe en Santiago de Cuba desde 2003. También ha actuado y grabado con Obbatuke, Grupo Barracón (de Luca Brandoli), Oyu Oro (dirigida por Danys “La Mora” Pérez) en Nueva York, CubaCaribe y Alayo Dance Company en San Francisco, Manana Cuba en Cuba, Inglaterra, España y Escocia, y muchos más. Ha participado en numerosos festivales nacionales como el Festival de Olorun, las Romerías de Mayo, la Jornada de la Cultura Iberoamericana, así como giras nacionales e internacionales. Ha dado clases a jóvenes y adultos en percusión y canto y montado montajes con escuelas y compañías de teatro y danza teatro. Leliebre Nuñez es versada en la música folclórica de Cuba, la rumba, la salsa, la música religiosa y las colaboraciones experimentales con estilos electrónicos y jazz.

Einar Leliebre Nuñez is a Musical Director, Singer, Percussionist, and Teacher from Santiago de Cuba. He was the Musical Director and lead musician of the prestigious Teatro de la Danza del Caribe company in Santiago de Cuba since 2003. He has also performed and recorded with Obbatuke, Grupo Barracón (led by Luca Brandoli), Oyu Oro (directed by Danys “La Mora” Pérez) in New York, CubaCaribe and Alayo Dance Company in San Francisco, Manana Cuba in Cuba, England, Spain, and Scotland, among many others. He has participated in numerous national festivals such as the Olorun Festival, the Romerías de Mayo, and the Ibero-American Culture Festival, as well as national and international tours. He has taught percussion and singing to both youth and adults and has worked on productions with schools and theater and dance companies. Leliebre Nuñez is well-versed in Cuban folkloric music, rumba, salsa, religious music, and experimental collaborations with electronic and jazz styles.
