Los Cilantros Restaurant at La Peña offers a unique experience of Mexican food in the Bay Area, focusing on community, high-quality service and ingredients, and delicious, authentic and accessible Mexican specialties.
Chef/owner Dilsa Lugo brings her vast experience in restaurants and farming to offer a selection of home-style Mexican dishes, all made from scratch, that highlight family recipes and the beauty of responsibly and locally-sourced ingredients. Because Mexican food is more than just rice and beans, Los Cilantros aims to introduce the Bay Area market to a wide array of regional specialties from throughout Mexico, offering simple interpretations of traditional dishes that highlight the richness of Bay Area ingredients.
The experience will extend beyond the kitchen and the plate, as Los Cilantros values friendly, attentive customer service, well-cared for staff and supporting other local farmers and food-producers, such as Mary’s Organic Chicken, Niman Ranch, Happy Boy Farms, Primavera Masa. As a long-time resident of Berkeley, Dilsa and her family are deeply committed to the community and to creating a casual yet vibrant space where families and individuals of all backgrounds (those familiar with Mexican food and otherwise) can engage with La Peña’s program and with Los Cilantros’ food.
