Maracatú Dance Class

Natives of Rio de Janeiro, Georgia and Elisa have extensive experience performing with local Maracatu groups, including Maracatu Pacifico.
Maracatu is a powerful dance that reflects the rich mixture of African, Indigenous, and European cultures in Brazil. It was created in Pernambuco state, in northeastern Brazil, in the mid eighteenth century.
During the five class series, you will learn the gorgeous movements and music of Maracatu and its history. In every class, you will learn a sequence of movements that will culminate in a performance on October 31st at La Peña. Come learn this beautiful dance and have lots of fun!
