Two Parts of Me, a night of Flamenco featuring the legendary guitarist Antonio Rey & singer and dancer Mara Rey, with special guests Bianca Rodriguez & Marlon Aldana!
ABOUT ANTONIO REY:
Antonio Rey Navas, non-gipsy guitarist known artistically by his own name Antonio Rey, was born in Madrid. He is one of the most outstanding talents of the new flamenco guitar. Born in a family of artists, his artistic career began at the age of ten in Mexico, in the tablaos of the Capital, accompanied by his father, Tony Rey. At the age of 15 he made his first tour of Japan together with the renowned Japanese bailaora Yoko Komatsubara. At 18 he was requested by the dancer Antonio Canales to join his company, and it was then that he began to forge his musical career in Spain successfully. He regularly composes and accompanies the first figures of the Spanish dance of the moment like Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortes, Juan de Juan, Rafael Amargo and Andrés Marín, among others. A few years later the New Spanish Ballet commissioned the composition of the show ‘Gallo de pelea’.
In 2003, he won the 1st Guitar Prize at the acclaimed La Union Mines Festival in Murcia (Spain), endowed with the ‘Bordón Minero’ trophy, followed by the 1st Prize at the L’Hospitalet Contest Llobregat in Barcelona (Spain). In 2007 he was called to practice as Musical Director of the live of the album ‘Olala ! ‘Of the actress Victoria Abril, as well as accompanying dancers of the likes of Farruquito, Farruco, Juan de Juan, La Farruca and Manuela Carrasco, among others, as well as singer Rafael de Utrera, cantaora La Tana.
That same year he began to present in different stages of the world an advance of his first work titled ‘A TRAVÉS DE TI’, composed entirely by him and dedicated to his mother, released to the market in September 2008. The disc has the collaboration of musicians of great renown such as Guadiana, Diego the Morao and Sabú, as well as the dancers Farruquito and his brother Farruco.
In July 2008 he obtained the 1st Prize of Flamenco Guitar of Murcia in the contest Niño Ricardo.
ABOUT MARA REY:
Mara Rey is a flamenco singer-songwriter and dancer born in Madrid. For years she has worked as a dancer and flamenco singer with great flamenco figures such as Manuela Carrasco, Los Farruco, Poveda, Pipa, Duquende, Canales, etc. Throughout her career she has participated in great performances and theaters like Lope de Vega, La Bienal de Flamenco and the Festival de Jerez.
Recently, she was a semi-finalist on the television program Levántate.
