Together for the first time, flamenco-singing jazz saxophone player Antonio Lizana joins multi-instrumentalist Diego Amador Jr, heir to the Amador dynasty (Diego Amador, Raimundo Amador, Juan José Amador, etc.), Cuban flamenco guitarist Andrés Vadín and others for a night of surprises, flamenco-jazz and beyond.

Antonio Lizana began playing the saxophone at the age of 10 and soon fell in love with jazz, graduating with a degree in jazz studies from the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco in 2011. Having grown up around flamenco and done some flamenco singing in his teens, he began to incorporate cante into his arrangements, to the point that now it’s difficult to distinguish between the sax player who sings and the singer who plays the saxophone. He has worked with Miguel Blanco and with Arturo O’Farrill’s Big Band, sharing the stage with Andy & Jerry González, Dave Valentin, Papo Vázquez, Pablo Mayor, Cristina Pato, Ximo Tévar or Gregg Agust, among others and he has collaborated with many greats, including Chano Domínguez, Jorge Pardo, Chambao. Lizana’s latest CD, Oriente was issued by Sony Music in Europe.

Diego Amador Jr.: From Seville, he was born into flamenco royalty. His father is the celebrated flamenco pianist Diego Amador and his uncles are Rafael and Raimundo Amador (Pata Negra). From a very young age he began performing and touring with some of Spain’s top flamenco artists, including Remedios Amaya, La Susi, Lole Montoya, Farruquito and Joaquín Cortés. Known mainly as a percussionist, he also sings, plays guitar and piano and recently launched a solo project as a singer/songwriter, with the track “Y me siento tan bien”.

Andres Vadín from Havana, Cuba, studied with masters of classical and flamenco guitar including Joaquin Clerch, Leo Brouwer, José Luis Rodríguez, Gerardo Núñez, Paco Jarana, Alfredo Lagos, José Antonio Rodríguez and others. Since relocating to Los Angeles 10 years ago, Vadín has toured, recorded and collaborated with Jorge Pardo, Saul Quiros, Pelé (Navajita Plateá), Antonio Carmona, Concha Buika, and many others and has accompanied dancers such as Maria Juncal, Alfonso Losa, Carmen Ledesma and Maria Bermúdez among others. His work as a session musician includes collaborations with Falete, Maricela, Asere and Billy Cobham, Golden Glow, José Fernandez and Wadih El Safi among others.
