Clara Rodriguez is artistic director and founder of AguaClara Flamenco, based in Oakland, CA. She has been training and working professionally in the flamenco world for 25 years, and has since been a featured soloist in productions throughout the United States, Spain, Portugal and India.
Most recently her company was comissioned to perform in the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival 40th anniversary festival in July 2018 at the War Memorial Opera House. As reviewed in the San Francisco Classical Voice: “Agua Clara Flamenco contributed a charming series of lightly airy dances from Seville, Aire de Romero, including virtuosic encounters with fans and a swirling shawl, expertly wielded by an expressive troupe of eight dancers in ruffled flamenco dresses”. AguaClara Flamenco was also selected to present a piece in the Festival’s 2016 program at the Palace of Fine Arts. The company has presented three years in a row at the San Francisco International Arts Festival programs in 2016-2018 at the Fort Mason Center. In conjunction with producer Azahar Dance Foundation, the company presented two full length works at the Cowell Theater in 2012 and 2015.
Clara Rodriguez performs regularly on the local flamenco circuit, with appearances at Thirsty Bear, The Sound Room, Yoshis, Rhythmix Cultural Works, The New Parish, La Peña Cultural Center, Ashkenaz and others. In 2018 she became Adjunct Faculty at UC Berkeley teaching flamenco dance. She holds regular dance classes in Oakland and also offers workshops outside the Bay Area.
