Empowering People of Color Open Mic!

Due to the tremendous positive impact that the Empowering Womxn of Color Open Mic* has had in our community, we are extending this program to center BIPOC, Women, LGBTQ+ folks, Immigrants/Migrants, and all other voices that have been historically marginalized and underrepresented. We want to hear you, support you, and transform the world with you!

FEATURED ARTISTS:

• Ro aka DJ Paisa Bae (they/them) is a Trans, Chicanx DJ/MC hailing from the borderlands of San Diego/Tijuana region. When not cuddling with their chihuahua Ruby, they can be found at cultural events, playing son jarocho with AntifaSon or working as a middle school counselor. Their favorite music to play includes reggaeton, banda, cumbia, and nueva cancion. With Ro, ¡que siga la fiesta!
• Sylvia Blalock (she/her) is a Bay Area-based poet and author. She is the Owner/Chief Executive Poet of Queendom Network; author of “Uprising-a book of Poetry”, and host of Voices That Carry-Being Loud On Purpose.
• Dizzy Jenkins aka Dimebag Dizzy (they/them) is an Oakland-based multi genre singer / songwriter. Dizzy has released two hip hop albums and, most recently, Skeleton Key, which is a soulful take on country, blues and folk. In 2020, Dizzy’s bomba composition, Agua De Esclavo, appeared in the academic journal, Chicana/Latina Studies: The Journal of Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social.
• Valentina Campos (painter) is a third-generation Bolivian artist. Her art work evokes the femenine mythologies of traditional seeds and the Andean agro-centric symbolism. Since 2000, she has been creating a series of paintings entitled “Siembra de Mamalas”, reflecting sowing rituals, the role of women in the Andean cosmo-vision, and the protection of biodiversity.
