Latino Fim Festival: Kumbia Net

October 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

16th Latino Film Festival: Kumbia Net! Film Screening + Kumbia Party.

This film travels between Mexico and the U.S. to hear the stories behind the creation of the kumbia obscura genre told by the architects of the sound: Turbo Sonidero, El Cifickzer, Satanico Dr. Truza, and Amantes Del Futuro, to name a few. The roots of Kumbia Net are on full display, the influence of Mexican Sound System culture, and the sonic timbres of electronic music.

Alvaro Parra is an Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker and deejay born and raised in Los Angeles, California to Mexican parents. His introduction to sound system culture began in backyard parties and warehouse raves of the LA metropolitan area. Parra’s documentaries explore themes of urban life, music cultures, and the intersection of technology. His films have been screened at the Hammer Museum, Museo Mural Diego Rivera, De Appel Arts Center, and other locations. Currently, Parra’s production studio, De La Parra Productions, is producing a documentary series called Sistema: Sound System Culture in the Americas.
