La Peña is a multicultural gathering place rooted in the Latinx diaspora at all of its intersections, including: Afro-Latinx, indigenous, multiracial, and LGBTQ.
We unite communities who are actively resisting oppression, artists, activists and allies to celebrate cultural traditions and build grassroots social justice networks.
We hold ourselves accountable to disrupt business as usual in response to the recent murders of the following black people due to police brutality: George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and so many others. As an organization that has stood in solidarity with peoples’ movements for 45 years, we have seen that justice must be fought for.
Thanks to the incredible movement-building that has been created by #BlackLivesMatter networks, there is a lot of energy and potential for change right now. We stand in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement. TOGETHER we can dismantle this nation’s racist power structures. We will not be divided and conquered. We will show up for each other.
As an organization that serves and unites communities who are actively resisting systems of oppression, we join our community partners in response to the recent murders by uplifting Black liberation as a central and essential component to dismantling the racist power structure and corruption within the police force, which allows harassment, murder, and racially biased imprisonment, thereby, profiting from the oppression of people of color. We recognize that this is one of many systems of White Supremacy, along with other forms of oppression, that permeate our society.
Join us in educating ourselves about the complex racial history of this country, listening to and uplifting Black voices, and continuing to rise up in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
We commit to take action as individuals and as an organization to build bridges among our networks so that TOGETHER we can dismantle the power structures that oppress our communities and elevate underrepresented voices.

We are entering our 45th year anniversary in the midst of this righteous peoples’ uprising and in a worldwide pandemic and have been reflecting on how we’ve showed up for social justice movements throughout our history. We are building upon this legacy and consciously choosing our role in how we support different movements from here on. This resource page is only the beginning of a grander, long-term vision to enhance our social justice programs that will allow us to carry out our mission in these evermore pressing times.
In Solidarity,
The LP Team
