CHILEXICO: Fiestas Patrias en La Peña – Live Cumbia & Folklore!

La Peña Cultural Center proudly presents CHILEXICO – a celebration of Chile & Mexico’s Independence Days, featuring an incredible lineup of Bay Area talent and special guests!

The evening starts off with folklore by: Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano, Mariela Herrera and Grupo Araucaria Danzas de Chile! Following the folklore, we bring you a full-on FIESTAS PATRIAS PARTY till 1am with: Discos Resaca Collective, Los Chicos Buenos and DJ Gabriel Lautaro.

So bring your Cumbia dancing shoes & cash for the TEQUILA & PISCO BAR, and come hungry for the delicious MEXICAN AND CHILEAN FOOD stands by Los Cilantros restaurant and El Mesón de Violeta!

DISCOS RESACA COLLECTIVE (Cumbias y más!)
Discos Resaca Collective, is a long time Bay Area Cumbia/Salsa/Tropical group who just released their first vinyl 45 and is known for getting the dance party started! Their music brings people from all background together in celebration through music, culture and community. Their focus is cumbia con acordeon!

LOS CHICOS BUENOS (Pop-Folk & Cumbias Chilenas)
Los Chicos Buenos bring rock and pop elements to traditional Chilean genres (Cueca, Diablada/Nortino, Chiloe, Pampa del Taramugal) and cumbia!

MARIACHI FEMENIL ORGULLO MEXICANO
Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano began their journey as the first all female Mariachi in the Bay Area in 2007. The group recently released their first official album, which is the first Mariachi album made entirely by women artists, producers and sound engineers. Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano strives to leave an indelible mark in a male-dominated genre and serve as role models for upcoming women musicians in traditional Mexican music.

MARIELA HERRERA:
Multi-instrumentalist, singer and dancer Mariela Herrera is well known in the Bay Area Chilean community for her traditional Chilean and native dances and music. She plays guitar, harp and flutes from Los Andes, as well as percussion instruments. She has danced with the Folkloric Ballet of Chile and the Arte Chile dance company. She studied traditional Chilean culture at the Catholic University of Chile. For this special performance she will both perform songs and dance with Grupo Araucaria Danzas de Chile.

GRUPO ARAUCARIA: DANZAS DE CHILE
Based in the SF Bay Area, Grupo Araucaria has been performing the traditional folk dances of Chile for over 20 years. Araucaria’s dancing represents the country’s diverse regional cultures: from the cold and rainy region of Chiloe, in the south, to the the sunny and productive valleys in the Central Region, to the desert and festive Andes mountains in the north.
