About Jo Alvarez
Jo Alvarez is a bilingual, queer, loverbae of the Colombian diaspora. Forever a romantic, hopeful skeptic, Jo fuses styles like bolero, cumbia, and nueva canción with the essence of punk. Jo’s lyrics are heartfelt and deeply emotional – telling stories and turning their audience’s attention to the layers that exist within even the most mundane moments.
During this first-ever Conciertito at La Peña, Jo Alvarez will be releasing their new demo called “Reflexiónes y Esperanzas.” The songs for this demo came together over the past three years, spelling out a lot of the grief, hope, despair, and inner work that Jo has been processing through major global events, personal loss, and their mental health journey.
