Empowering Women of Color Open Mic!

Our Empowering Women of Color Open Mic keeps getting stronger and giving us so much joy!! Join us for this series at La Peña that uplifts the experiences and talents of BIPOC, Women, LGBTQAI+ folks, Immigrants / Migrants, and all other voices that have been historically erased, marginalized, and under/misrepresented. We want to hear you, support you, and transform the world with you!

Featured Artists:

  • AntifaSon is a Son Jarocho project musically residing on unceded Ohlone territory (aka Oakland). They amplify anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, anti-fascist and anti-extractivist feminist themes in Son Jarocho songs that form part of the larger history of Afro-Indigenous land, water and campesinx struggles.
  • Mía Pixley is a clinical psychologist, mother, composer, and musical artist who uses her cello, voice, and performance to study and represent aspects of self and other, community, and the natural world. Mia has performed on GRAMMY award-winning albums (Fantastic Negrito), off-broadway musicals (Futurity), and in national tours (Windham Hill Winter Solstice), among many others. Mia’s discography includes a full length album (Margaret in the Wild, 2021) and two interdisciplinary EP projects (Spar Suite, 2020 and Passage, 2022), with a soon-to-be-released new project she’s very excited about.
