Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern returns to La Peña for an informal discussion concerning his just-completed trip to Israel and Palestine, the situation in Syria and other current foreign policy issues.
Ray served as a CIA analyst from 1963 to 1990–from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. Ray’s duties included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the President’s Daily Brief. Since then he has become a major dissident voice both with respect to U.S. foreign policy and to the actions of the U.S. Intelligence Community.
In 2003 Ray co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity to expose how intelligence was being falsified to justify war on Iraq. He was also a co-founder of the Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence, which since 2002 has gone annually to important Intelligence Community whistleblowers. He traveled to Moscow to present the 2013 award to Edward Snowden.
Ray has been an extremely popular speaker at La Peña on several previous occasions.
On Saturday, March 11, Ray will be the keynote speaker at a major Bay Area conference on U.S.-Russia relations (more info here.) This La Peña event the evening before is a chance to hear Ray’s thoughts and ask your questions in a more informal setting.
