Welcome to La Peña! Promoting social justice & intercultural understanding through the arts since 1975.
Laura, a Mindful Facilitation intern with Stirfry Seminars and Consulting, WTC alum and faculty member, will use mindful facilitation for attendees to talk before and after viewing Diversity Trainer and Filmmaker Lee Mun Wah’s film “If These Halls Could Talk” – an incredible film that showcases, through the dynamic conversations of real college students, how racism and oppression are still very present on our college campuses today. The film documents 10 college students from across the nation: four black americans, two biracial, one Muslim, three European American, one openly gay man, and one Hmong who spend a weekend together talking about racism and oppression. The film is provocative and is used as a training tool for diversity trainers and facilitators nationwide.
Laura Mui, LMFT is the owner and psychotherapist of her Oakland-based practice, Conscious Roots. She offers psychotherapy, clinical supervision and community healing services rooted in social justice and well-being for individuals, families, couples and groups. She recently graduated from the Art of Mindful Facilitation Certification Program with Stirfry Seminars and Consulting, and is earning service hours as an intern to nurture her practice to offer diversity, inclusion and equity skills training/consultation.
This event’s agenda is simple – arrive, share, watch the film, explore and share some more.
The event’s goal is to provide space to gather and talk–to practice being in community. Please join us!
