Come join us in the warm and vibrant lounge of La Peña Cultural Center for an evening of transportive music that YOU get to take part in! Local cosmonauts Frontiers and Astral Prince will be joined by Desert Magic (LA), and before they play their immersive sets, there will be an open mic from 7:30-8:30pm. So come with a song or a story and stay for the tales these musicians have to tell of travels, of dreams, of life.
FRONTIERS:
Frontiers makes soundscapes and songs of exploration, tying the dreamworld seamlessly with the real world – in all of it’s hustle and struggle – with pulsing rhythm and passionate playing mixed with exotic flourishes. This performance will feature the lapsteel and guitar stylings of California-born composer Alex Simon and Nepalese flautist and vocalist Mimoha Karki, with an ensemble of percussionists. Frontiers released music at the beginning of this year, is recording now, and will be traveling and recording for all of 2016.
DESERT MAGIC:
Desert Magic is an LA-based trio that specializes in writing rounds and songs about nature, science, and the cosmos. They have been releasing their debut album piecemeal on the solstices and equinoxes of 2015 on www.a-round-the-sun.com. Desert Magic is Grammy Award-winning musician Alex Wand, guitarist Steven Van Betten, and multi-instrumentalist Logan Hone.
ASTRAL PRINCE:
Astral Prince is the New-Age, Semi-Occult musical project of vocalist/keyboardist Benjamin D-C. The project is based in metaphoric poetry, wordplay, and occult imagery, coupled with thick, heavy synth textures. Astral Prince is strongly influenced by classical music, Gregorian chant, and Hindustani chant.
