Welcome to La Peña! Promoting social justice & intercultural understanding through the arts since 1975.
Director and culture bearer Einar Leliebre Nuñez has selected top-notch musicians and dancers to perform at this unique celebration, which will honor the legacy of the rumbero/as who have illuminated the path. Creating a tradition following last year’s successful event, the show will bring together Cubans, Caribbeans, Latinos, and people from the African Diaspora, and other communities and supporters of culture from all walks of life.
This all-ages celebration, which includes a free class for children (Sat, May 31) and a concert, social and DJ (Sun, June 1), will be at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, an important community space that is dedicated to supporting Latino-Caribbean culture and where Einar currently teaches Rumba classes. Food by Los Cilantros will be available for purchase.
The Kids drum class will occur on the last day of May and the concert will occur on the first day of June, which is Caribbean Heritage Month.
See you, family!
