Welcome to La Peña! Promoting social justice & intercultural understanding through the arts since 1975.
Latin Contact Dance is a NEW form of dance that combines the traditional steps and notions of partner dance found in Latin dance forms with the fundamentals concepts of Contact Improvisation.
It uses the simple movements of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Tango to explore the relationship between the leader and the follower as well as to improvise with these different dance forms in a fun way. This dance is directed towards body awareness, communication and creativity through movement, music and contact.
Contact Improvisation is a form of improvised dancing that involves continuous contact between two persons or more. Some key concepts explored by Contact Improvisation are the interchange of weight, touch, and movement awareness.
Please come in comfortable clothes and ready to dance barefoot!
This workshop is great for anyone who enjoys partner dancing, improvisation and latin music! You do not need to know any latin dance to participate in the class.
All levels and all bodies welcome!
