Join us for the premier screening of a new documentary about one of the world’s most controversial dam projects, “Belo Monte: After the Flood.” The event will include live music and a panel discussion with Amazon Watch and International Rivers.
“Belo Monte: After the Flood” is a new film directed by award-winning environmental documentarian Todd Southgate, and produced with International Rivers, Amazon Watch and Cultures of Resistance. For seven years, Todd has documented the conflicts surrounding Belo Monte – one of the world’s most controversial dam projects, built in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon.
Stories told by indigenous leaders, activists and local residents illustrate how this multi-billion dollar project has left a disastrous legacy of damage, and shattered livelihoods among local communities of the Xingu. But their stories also speak of the inspiring movement for justice and accountability, as the Amazon faces more dam threats similar to Belo Monte. For more information about the film, visit: https://
A $10-$20 sliding scale donation will be requested at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds.
