Bay Area Lesbian Archives presents a dynamic evening remembering Aché, those who created, contributed to and were impacted by the black lesbian journal and organization and its events.
Aché, 1989 – 1993 was both a free journal and a community organization originally based in Berkeley, CA, for, by and about black lesbians. The journal was founded by Lisbet Tellefsen and Pippa Fleming. The nonprofit organization Aché played a major role in organizing, making visible and creating alliances locally and internationally in the Bay Area black lesbian and black LGBTQ communities locally and internationally.
This dynamic evening will include an opening procession/ritual, slideshows, story sharing, spoken word, live music, and more. The evening will include performances by Bay Area notables all of whom were connected to, or supported Aché such as; musician, poet, author Avotcja, author, poet, playwright, Jewelle Gomez, comedian, Karen Williams, dancer, vocalist, poet, Pippa Fleming, Latin music vocalist, Maria Cora, storyteller, Beli Sullivan, poet, writer, Marvin K. White, poet, writer, Andrea Canaan, drag king performers, Momma’s Boyz and more, all sharing stories of Aché’s impact on their lives. Come out and join us for this uplifting and celebratory evening. We look forward to seeing you there!
