Standing Rock Legal Update and Urgent Call to Action

August 25, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Please note that we have added a second event beginning at 5 p.m. because the 7pm event is at max capacity. We ask that you RSVP for tickets to the 5 p.m. event HERE.

You’re invited to a special evening with social justice attorneys Chase Iron Eyes and Daniel Sheehan of the Lakota People’s Law Project.

FREE – Donations of any size are welcome and greatly appreciated!

In spring of 2016, a movement was born at Standing Rock. When the Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) was rerouted to the reservation, endangering its sacred water supply, Lakota elders asked allies to rally to their cause, symbolized by the phrase: “Mni Wiconi—Water is Life.” Hundreds of thousands of you answered their call.

Revelations of illegal paramilitary tactics employed by private security firms against Chase and other peaceful water protectors on the front lines underscore that our very democracy is at stake. This forum provides a unique opportunity to engage with two generational voices sharing first-hand accounts of this historic movement and the legal battles being waged in the Dakotas.

We invite you to join Chase and Danny for this exceptional evening. Together, let’s continue to answer and advance the call to unite at this critical hour.

About Our Speakers:
Chase Iron Eyes is a citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the 2016 Democratic candidate for North Dakota’s congressional seat, Chase serves as lead counsel of the Lakota People’s Law Project and stood on the front lines of the fight against DAPL. Targeted by militarized private security in league with law enforcement, he now faces ten years in prison if convicted of a pair of felony charges falsely levied against him.

Daniel Sheehan is president of the Romero Institute and a renowned constitutional attorney. As chief defense counsel for Chase Iron Eyes, his legal strategy will expose the collusion between government, industry and militarized security to suppress Native populations and the right of all Americans to peacefully demonstrate.
