Welcome to La Peña! Promoting social justice & intercultural understanding through the arts since 1975.
FREE DANCE WORKSHOP! All skill levels welcome!
Join Rosy Simas for a dance workshop diving into her creative process used to develop her latest works We Wait In The Darkness and Skin(s).
A meditative and concentrated process – this workshop will bring us into the world of the senses. We will explore creating movement from the inside out and discuss and explore how to craft such movement for performance.
“I am Native, I am Seneca, I am also a dancemaker. This is what makes my work Native. This is what makes my dance about Native identity. Because just simply being a Native dancemaker is political. It is my continual embodied political act of creating more visibility of Native people.” – Rosy Simas
Rosy Simas is a 2015 Guggenheim Creative Arts Fellowship. Simas is also a fiscal year 2016 recipient of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Simas is also a recipient of the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project Touring Award, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Her latest work “Skin(s)” is a National Presenters Network (NPN) Creation Fund Project and is being presented at La Peña Cultural Center for two nights only: May 19 & 20. More information at Lapena.org
