Tthe island of Puerto Rico has been completely devastated due to Hurricane Maria. A group of Puerto Rican students at UC Berkeley have come together to form “Boricuas in Berkeley” last September and with your help were able to raise more than $7,000 to help farmers restore their crops and to provide aid in humanitarian relief efforts.
In an effort to get the Latin community together and collect material goods for basic humanitarian needs in the island, La Peña Cultural Center has partnered up with us Boricuas in Berkeley to celebrate a Puerto Rican Fiesta Navideña (which has an admission fee of $20 at door) and host a Hurricane Maria Donation Drive in front of La Peña at the same time on Sunday, Dec. 17 2pm-7pm.
Come by La Peña Sunday Dec. 17 between 2pm-7pm to drop off your donation or to enjoy the party!
La Peña Cultural Center is located at, 3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley. We recommend taking Bart! We are located a few blocks from Ashby Bart.
Boricuas in Berkeley will be collecting the following items to bring to different communities in Puerto Rico over the Holiday season:
