WHAT IS LA PEÑA’S ARCHIVE?
La Peña’s Archive is a big compendium of physical and audiovisual material that has accumulated over the past 49 years and that represents an important part of the memory of La Peña and of the communities that have given life to this space. It includes materials that portray: support for the Chilean resistance in the US and abroad, resistance movements in Chile from the early 1970s to the present, La Peña’s own cultural events, Bay Area’s political activities, Central American solidarity movements, and more.
WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON NOW
La Peña’s Archive Committee has been working for the past three years to identify options to preserve the La Peña archive. Based on their research, which includes conversations with experts, potential collaborators, and ongoing community conversations, they are now actively creating the inventory and online catalog of our materials! This is a massive endeavor that should be ready for the public to utilize and benefit from within the upcoming years. Thank you to our Archive committee for all the incredible work to honor, preserve, and share the La Peña Archive!

OTHER ARCHIVAL PROJECTS
Proyecto La Peña: Max, Abigail, and Lulu developed this site as a project for an American Studies class at the University of California, Berkeley. Through a series of short analyses, participant narratives and, a glimpse into its historical past, we feature La Peña Cultural Center as a site of transnational social-political resistance grounded in community, arts, and culture.
