Come join us for Mosaiceye’s 5th birthday celebration by participating in a ceremonial gathering that seeks to foster our common mission and strengthen our communities! We will gather in person at La Peña to revel in artful expressions by local artists, educators and activists inspired by the concepts of peace, love & freedom.
This event is a fundraiser to support Sogorea Te’ Land Trust.

Artists’ Line-up:
Chetna Mehta: Founding artist of Mosaiceye, facilitator and speaker. Her education and experiences span social sciences, counseling psychology, yoga philosophy and practice from a liberation-oriented perspective.
Vimbayi Kajese: A poet, writer and speaker, Vimbayi draws creative inspiration from her experiences living in various countries and through the lens of intersectional, global identities.
Austin Willacy: Austin is a pop and a cappella mentor artist who writes and produces different genres for television, film, and other artists. He is the director of Til Dawn, Youth in Arts’ award-winning teen a cappella group.
Zulaika Zulkephli: Originally from Kuala Lumpur and psychologist graduated from UC Berkeley, her work focuses on grief, bibliotherapy, and accessible works for adolescents specifically in unpacking difficult subject matters.
Michelle Castillo: Photographer and writer from Honduran ancestry, if she’s not doing photography or getting lost listening to her favorite music, she sits outside and writes for her music magazine “Cut it Out”.
Prashay Mehta: Prashay is a civil engineer and practicing digital artist known as Gridscatter. He was originally born in South Africa and now lives in Oakland.
Heather Cohen: Heather comes from a long line of healers and artists on both her Ukranian and Spanish/Moroccan ancestry. She currently works offering divination through astrology and tarot.

We are pleased to be bringing back our most popular vendor fair: Frida Kahlo’s Birthday Tianguis Celebration! This year’s event will be held outdoors on Saturday, July 9th from 12am-6pm and will focus on celebrating strong women artists, artisans, and creators from the Bay Area.

SNEAK PEEK OF OUR TIANGUIS’ ARTIST COMMUNITY:
- DJ Leydis (will be spinning 12pm-4pm)
Born and raised in Cuba, DJ Leydis combines contemporary hits with a distinct fusion of Latin flavors, R&B classics, and roots reggae blends. Involved in the Cuban hip-hop movement since its inception, DJ Leydis helped organize some of the country’s most respected and best-attended events and community programs. In 2005 she cofounded Omegas Kilay, a hip-hop theater collective in Havana focused on presenting the poetry, music, experiences, and perspectives of artists such as DJ Yari, Danay Suarez, Nono, La LLave De IPG, La Negra, and Las Krudas. DJ Leydis co-created the first all-female DJ mixtape in Cuba, contributing a special blend of new flavor and spirit to the international community. In 2006 DJ Leydis migrated to United States to expand upon her work as a DJ and has worked with Erykah Badu, Quest Love of the Roots, and other iconic US-based artists.

Filmada en Arica (norte de Chile), esta película de 36 minutos de duración nos sumerge en las complejidades de la migración desde el punto de vista de niños inmigrantes. La película no está disponible en línea en este momento, pero si tienes interés, te recomendamos que contactes directamente a las/os directores!

Sinopsis: Joaquín, Deyna, Ricardo y Dilan son niños que tienen algo en común. Aunque nacieron en diferentes países, todos viven en la ciudad de Arica y estudian en una escuela primaria pública con una gran cantidad de alumnos inmigrantes. Una narrativa coral que recorre sus experiencias en torno a migrar y crecer en Chile, nos sumerge en las complejidades de la migración desde una mirada cándida, transparente, directa y sencilla, propia de la infancia. Nos cuentan los desafíos y obstáculos que han enfrentado, así como sus esperanzas y las oportunidades que se les han abierto en un Chile políticamente convulso. Junto a sus familias nos acompañan a través de sus biografías, reflexionan sobre sus vidas y el futuro que quieren construir.
