THIS EVENT:
- Will be intercultural and bilingual (Spanish / English)
- Will be moderated by Kelly Baur, documentary filmmaker and doctoral student in linguistics from Arizona State University.
- Will take the form of a Ngütramkawun, which is a space for conversation where participants talk from what each one knows in order to respond openly and deeply to certain topics. In this context, we listen respectfully to the people with more knowledge, who are the ones in charge of guiding the conversation and ensuring the mutual understanding of the participants.
- Will include the viewing of short videos that contextualize the field work and show part of what cultural resistance in Wallmapu means today.
In these times of misinformation, it is crucial to listen to the experiences of activists and social organizers on the ground so that we can adopt various tactics that revalue indigenous knowledge and allow us to move towards a fair and sustainable future.

Día de Muertos Celebration!
Come celebrate Día de Muertos with us at La Peña! This is an invitation to bring our community together to participate in a pre-hispanic ritual that helps us to grieve and celebrate our loved ones who have become ancestors. Come learn about the Day of the Dead tradition, symbolism and spirituality from Oaxacan-born and raised multidisciplinary artist and sound healer Ernesto Hernández Olmos.
Following the presentation, we will gather outside for the Ceremony of the Four Directions and initiate the community ofrenda (bring your instruments to jam in front of the altar with us)!
There will also be an art exhibition and vendors selling: Cempasuchil (marigolds) flowers, Paint your own Sugar Skulls (a tradition from Puebla, Mexico), Craft Activities for kids, and arts & crafts by Ernesto Hernandez-Olmos.
Finally, come enjoy a special Día de Muertos menu by Los Cilantros restaurant: pozole, tamales and tacos!
PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to participate in the community altar, bring any offering of food, candles, pictures, etc. (Do not bring anything of value that you want to take home with you because this community altar is staying up all night.)
