Come celebrate Día de Muertos with us at La Peña! This is an invitation to bring our community together to participate in a pre-hispanic ritual that helps us to grieve and celebrate our loved ones who have become ancestors. Come learn about the Day of the Dead tradition, symbolism and spirituality from Oaxacan-born and raised multidisciplinary artist and sound healer Ernesto Hernández Olmos.

Following the presentation, we will gather outside for the Ceremony of the Four Directions and initiate the community ofrenda (bring your instruments to jam in front of the altar with us)!

There will also be an art exhibition and vendors selling: Cempasuchil (marigolds) flowers, Paint your own Sugar Skulls (a tradition from Puebla, Mexico), Craft Activities for kids, and arts & crafts by Ernesto Hernandez-Olmos.

Finally, come enjoy a special Día de Muertos menu by Los Cilantros restaurant: pozole, tamales and tacos!

PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to participate in the community altar, bring any offering of food, candles, pictures, etc. (Do not bring anything of value that you want to take home with you because this community altar is staying up all night.)

The night will include:

• 7:30pm: Doors open with Ritmos Tropicales Dance Party in our Lounge!
• 8:00pm: Gender-inclusive Bachata & Salsa Dance Classes in our Theater with José Santamaría from JAS Dance Academy (no partner or experience necessary!)
• 9:30pm: Dominican Bachata Party with DJ Ron in our Lounge & Dance Party with DJ Jose Ruiz in our Theater!
• 10:00pm: LIVE Salsa Concert with VibraSON on our mainstage! Featuring: Manny Martinez (Lead Vocals), Erick Peralta (Piano), Ernesto Mazar (Bass), Julio Perez (Timbales), Karl Perazzo (Special guest: Congas), Charlie Barreda (Vibraphone), Jake Jacobs (Bongo/campana)
• Party goes until 1:00am in our Lounge (Dominican Bachata), Theater (Salsa y más) and Community Room (fundraising bar and hang out)!

The vibe of this party will be like a spontaneous dance party that broke out in your kitchen, only if your kitchen had big wood floors, a great live band and sound system, and 200 of your friends, chosen family, and a few intriguing strangers…

Like all events at La Peña, this gathering will be beyond inclusive of all cultures, ages, orientations and identities so you can bring your whole self to the dance floor and be properly celebrated.
