Este año conmemoramos 51 años del Golpe de Estado que —apoyado por la CIA y el gobierno de EE.UU.— derrocó al presidente democráticamente electo Salvador Allende el 11 de septiembre de 1973 en Chile.

Acompáñanos a estar juntes en este evento íntimo de conmemoración, revitalizando nuestra memoria histórica y continuando la lucha por la justicia y la dignidad de todos, todas y todes. Como cada año en La Peña, tendremos música en vivo, poesía, arte, comida chilena, vino navegado, y el tradicional altar de arena y flores frente a nuestro mural. ¡Acompáñanos y hazte parte de este espacio tan importante de respeto, amor y resistencia!

ENGLISH: This year is the 51st anniversary of the coup d’etat that —supported by the CIA and the US government— overthrew the democratically elected president Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973 in Chile.

Join us in this intimate event of commemoration that revitalizes our historical memory and continues the struggle for justice and dignity of all. Like every year at La Peña, we will have live music, poetry, art, Chilean food, mulled wine, and the traditional altar of sand and flowers in front of our mural. Come and be part of this important space of respect, love and resistance!

Come join us for an evening of Latin American folk music for the whole family featuring Lydia Mills!

ENGLISH: Be ready to soar with the mystical sounds of the traditional drums and flutes from the Andes mountains, to dance and sing along to festival music, and to listen to peaceful melodies that speak to the heart. Special guests include alumni from Los Mapaches, the Latin American Youth Ensemble 1998-2011! Experience the long-awaited return of Lydia Mills to the La Peña stage!

SPANISH: Prepárense para volar con los sonidos místicos de las flautas y tambores tradicionales de los Andes, para bailar y cantar a la música de los festivales, y escuchar melodías tranquilas que se dirigen al corazón. Invitados especiales incluyen estudiantes de Los Mapaches, ¡el Conjunto Juvenil de música latinoamericana 1998-2011! ¡Vengan a vivir la vuelta de Lydia Mills al escenario de La Peña!

Lydia Mills grew up in a musical family and has been singing her whole life. She fell in love with Latin American folk music at a young age through attending concerts with Grupo Raíz and Inkuyo at La Peña. At 18, she began her travels in Latin America, studying Spanish and traditional folk music in Guatemala, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia and Chile. While teaching music and training teachers is her full time job, Lydia loves to sing and create friendships and community through the power of song.

In this concert Lydia has invited to the stage her childhood friend Tony Feist on violin and her alumni from Los Mapaches, the Latin American Youth Ensemble she founded and directed from 1998-2011. This show will include some of her favorite folk songs from Latin America, as well as some of her own compositions.
